What is Pro-Nox™?

Pro-Nox™ is a pneumatically controlled delivery system that provides a fixed mixture of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide (often called "laughing gas"). It is designed to help relieve both pain and anxiety during medical procedures.

Unlike traditional sedation, Pro-Nox™ is completely patient-controlled. You hold the mouthpiece and breathe in the mixture as needed, putting you in charge of your own comfort level. It takes effect within seconds, helping you feel calm and relaxed almost instantly.

What kind of procedures can I use Pro-Nox™ for?

At Ogeechee OBGYN, we offer Pro-Nox™ for a wide range of in-office procedures that might otherwise cause discomfort or nervousness. It is an excellent option for:

• Routine Screenings: Such as Pap Smears for patients with high sensitivity.

Is Pro-Nox™ safe for patients with a low pain threshold?

Absolutely. Pro-Nox™ is ideal for patients who are concerned about their pain tolerance. Because the gas mixture is rapidly absorbed and eliminated by your body, you can use it to "take the edge off" during the most sensitive parts of a procedure. 

One of the greatest benefits of Pro-Nox™ is that it does not stay in your system long. The effects typically wear off within 10 to 15 minutes of your last breath, meaning you are alert, awake, and clear to drive yourself home shortly after your appointment.

What should I expect during the Pro-Nox™process?

Using Pro-Nox™ is simple and non-invasive. Your provider will hand you a clean, single-use breathing circuit. When you feel you need relief, you simply inhale through the mouthpiece. You will remain fully awake and able to communicate with your doctor, but you will feel a deep sense of relaxation and a significant reduction in physical discomfort.
